You may have heard this a lot...BUILD AN EMAILING LIST!
You may be wondering...How do I do that? What would this do to help me as an Author?
We know it can seem very scary and intimidating to creating an emailing list. Most people don't know why they would need one or what they would with one?
We can help you with that.
An emailing list is a list of subscribers who have signed up (via your website or a form) to gain more information about you and your brand. They are giving you permission to send them emails so they can keep up with you (the Author) and your brand (Your Books).
Think of it this way.
My subscribers are my own personal community. If Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter were to become obsolete, then I will still have my own personal community to still reach out to. Anyone remember when MySpace was popping? Right, who and what is Myspace?
Now that you get my GIF, place and email subscription button on your website or create a popup subscription button to remind people to sign up.
What do I include in an Email?
This is one of the most challenging things for most authors, but it doesn't have to be. An email, is like a letter you are sending to your subscribers letting them know what's going on with you at any given time of your career. You can include things such as:
New Book Release Information
Pre-Order Information
Current Events that tie into your book
Events that you are apart of
Contest
Giveaways
Blog Post
Encouraging Post
A Glimpse of Your Life
Helpful Information (your knowledge of writing and publishing)
Behind-the-Scenes
These are just a few ideas you can use to create content for your emails. Be creative and authentic. If you have a website, most of them come with email subscription buttons as well as email templates.
How often do I send an Email?
Email can be sent Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, or as the author feels is needed. There is no set time and pace for you to send your emails. There is no right or wrong way to do it, because this list in yours to manage how you want.
If you are seeking for a good number of emails to send to your subscribers, try sending an email once a week on the same day and time of week. Or every other week. Pick two or three of the above mentioned contents and stick to those with every email switching them up. For example:
4 Emails/Month = 1 Email/Week = Fridays
First Friday of the Month: Current Events that tie into my Book
Second Friday of the Month: Contest/Giveaway or Helpful Information
Third Friday of the Month: Behind-the-Scenes
Fourth Friday of the Month: A Glimpse of My Life
Those are just a few ideas that can get your emailing list started.
Now that you are a little bit more familiar with having an emailing list. Let's keep those fingers to typing. We recommend sitting down and writing out your email in advance. Try typing 50 -100 words or more in your emails. Comment below your thoughts and insight. We would love your feedback.
